Thank You, Mike! Congratulations on Retirement!

Thank You, Mike! Congratulations on Retirement!

It’s important to acknowledge the people who make the guitar shop experience special. We’d like to thank our own Mike Turk, for 54 years of service in the musical instrument and pro audio industry, and his last 3 years with Dave’s Guitar Shop.

Mike has helped people find their dream guitars all around the Madison area for longer than Dave’s Guitar Shop has been in business. There are folks who visit the shop to this day who have worked with Mike in the earliest parts of his career. However, all good things come to an end eventually, and at the end of June, Mike will be retiring from the musical instrument and pro audio industry.

Mike began his career in instrument sales when he was 19, at Capitol Music on W. Main street in Madison, WI. At the time, Capitol Music was owned by Henri’s Music out of Green bay, and in the late 60’s Henri’s closed Capitol Music to open an official Henri’s music store on Monona Drive. They operated there until the mid 70’s when Mike and a partner bought out the Henri’s Music in Madison, and moved to W. Goram St. to become Capitol Music once again.

Mike closed Capitol Music in 1979, and joined Patti Music on State Street. Patti music was bought in 1991 and in the following years was rebranded to Madison Music Company. Around 2001, Madison Music moved from their State street location to W. Beltline Dr. near Seminole highway. Mike ran Madison Music until they closed down in May of 2018. This led to Dave asking Mike to help open and run a Dave’s Guitar Shop in Madison.

It has been a pleasure having Mike run the Madison store these last three years. He’s been an incredible manager, teacher, and friend in his time at Dave’s Guitar Shop. His knowledge and experience is invaluable, and we’ll miss having him in the shop.

Mike will still be popping in from time to time, but for once it will be as a patron instead of a professional. Mike, from musicians everywhere, thank you for your dedication and hard work over the past 54 years.

A debt of gratitude is owed for the knowledge and experience you leave with the next generation of guitar salespeople. You’ve helped countless players find the right instrument, and leave an undeniable legacy behind you. Enjoy your retirement, and we’ll see you down the road.
